Supported Platforms
Any other Web Server

This page is intended only for those people who are not using Windows Web server software like Microsoft Web Servers. The RADpage/heitml setup program on Windows automatically configures RADpage/heitml to run on these Web servers.

General

RADpage/heitml supports the CGI (Common Gateway Interface) standard. A CGI compliant application should run with any Web Server, but it is slower than the direct connection. If you are using a Web server that is not listed explicitly on our Supported Platforms page, but a Web server that supports the CGI standard then it should be working with RADpage/heitml.

Installation and Configuration

Perform the following steps1:

  1. Install the RADpage/heitml CGI version2 (if not already done).
  2. Make the heitml2.1 data directory3 available under your Web site, e.g. http://yourserver/heitml2.1. In general, every Web server software has its own means for that purpose like creating a Document Alias, Document Mapping, Virtual Directory or whatever the term is for mapping a URL to a directory on your local hard disk.
  3. Map .hei files to the heitml CGI application. In general, every Web server software has its own means for that purpose:
    • Web servers like the Apache HTTP Server support server side mappings of file extensions to MIME types and MIME types to applications.
    • For other Web servers other configuration methods may be required.

On UNIX, if your ISP allows you to run CGIs only from a CGI directory like cgi-bin on your Web site, you might either want to try the CGI Installer or perform the following steps:

  1. copy the heitml program and the heitml configuration file from the heitml2.1 program directory4 to the cgi-bin directory of your Web site,
  2. adapt the heitml configuration file in the cgi-bin directory accordingly. Refer to our Configuration page, if you need more information about heitml configuration files.
  3. The heitml program should now be available under http://yourserver/cgi-bin/heitml and acts now just like an ordinary CGI script.
You should now be able to read the documentation under
    http://yourserver/cgi-bin/heitml/heitml2.1/tutor/index.hei.
1this information can also be found in the README file.
2A list of required download packages supported by the latest RADpage/heitml release can be found on the RADpage/heitml Download page.
3The heitml2.1 data directory refers either to the htdocs\heitml2.1 directory under the heitml installation directory (Windows), or the directory where you installed the heitml2.1 data package (UNIX).
4The heitml2.1 program directory refers either to the program directory under the heitml installation directory (Windows), or the directory where you installed the heitml2.1 CGI package, preferrably the cgi-bin directory of your Web server or Web site (UNIX).
