Supported Platforms
Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) TM 4.0 or later

General

The IIS 4.0 on Windows NT Server 4.0 on Windows NT Workstation 4.0, IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000, IIS 5.1 on Windows XP Professional, and IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 Server work very well with heitml. All you need to do is to install heitml after installing the IIS. You might need to uninstall heitml if you did it in the wrong order. The heitml setup program will take care of everything else.

For the IIS we recommend to use the ISAPI version of heitml. It uses another interface than the CGI interface and so is much faster than the CGI version of heitml.

IIS 4.0 or later download and installation

IIS 4.0 is shipped with the Microsoft Windows NT Option Pack 4.0 which can be downloaded from Microsoft's Web site. You need to have installed Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4.01 before you can install IIS 4.0. Get further installation instructions from Microsoft's Web site.

IIS 5.0 is shipped with Windows 2000, IIS 5.1 is shipped with Windows XP Professional. Install it by selecting the 'Internet Information Services' option in Start/Settings/Control Panel/Software/Windows-Setup.

IIS 6.0 is shipped with Windows 2003 Server.

Restarting the Server

Restarting the Web server or even rebooting the server after heitml installation is not necessary. Nevertheless,

  1. you can stop the Web service using a command prompt and typing: net stop iisadmin
  2. you can start the Web service using a command prompt and typing: net start w3svc

Verifying the heitml configuration

  1. Start the Internet Service Manager (ISM) by entering 'inetmgr.exe' in the 'Start/Execute' dialog box. The MS Management Console application starts up and loads the ISM snap-in.
  2. In the scope pane, under Console Root, click on 'Internet Information Server'.
  3. In the results pane, there should be your computer listed. Click the secondary mouse button and choose 'Properties'. A window entitled '* <computer name> properties' appears.
  4. Under 'Master Properties' choose 'WWW service' and click on button 'Edit'. A window entitled 'WWW Service Master Properties for <computer name>' appears.
  5. Choose the 'Home Directory' tab and click the 'Configuration' button. The 'Application Configuration' window appears.
  6. Search for extension '.hei'. The executable path should be C:\heitml2.1\program\heitml.exe /C %s (CGI version) or C:\heitml2.1\program\heitmlisapi.dll (ISAPI version) where C:\heitml2.1 is the directory where you installed heitml. If an entry with the extension '.hei' cannot be found, add it.
  7. Choose OK three times.
  8. Now open the 'Internet Information Server/\* <computer name>/Default Web Site' tree in the scope pane.
  9. Check, that there is an heitml2.1 entry under 'Default Web Site'. If it doesn't exist, continue with step 14.
  10. Click on the heitml2.1 entry, click the secondary mouse button and choose 'Properties'. A window entitled 'heitml2.1 properties' appears.
  11. Check that 'A directory located on this computer' is checked and the local path is C:\heitml2.1\htdocs\heitml2.1 where C:\heitml2.1 is the directory where you installed heitml. Check that Read Access Permission and Script Permission is granted. If not, check the corresponding checkbox/radio button.
  12. Click the 'Configuration' button and repeat steps 6 and 7. If the 'Configuration' button is grayed, click on the button 'Create' first.
  13. Your Web server should now be configured with heitml.
  14. In the scope pane, click the secondary mouse button on 'Default Web Site' and choose 'New/Virtual Directory'. The 'New Virtual Directory Wizard' window appears.
  15. Enter 'heitml2.1' and choose 'Next'.
  16. Enter C:\heitml2.1\htdocs\heitml2.1 or browse the htdocs\heitml2.1 on your hard disk and choose 'Next'.
  17. Check the 'Allow Read Access' and 'Allow Script Access' check boxes and click 'Finish'.
  18. Your Web server should now be configured with heitml.
